I tested this with a 50 pound rice sack and a bathroom scale. The two scales differences are like a couple of ounces between each other. I have read that some airport scales can be off way more than that give or take. There are more compact scales out there but they don't have a light which is handy in a pinch if you need it for running out to the car at night or doing the last check around the room to make sure you didn't forget anything. Wouldn't use it as a replacement as a regular flashlight though. It is large enough so that you can wrap your hands around it comfortably for a good grip small or big. There are smaller ones out there but some seem awkward to hold or are uncormfortable to try and lift a heavy suitcase for a few seconds to get your reading. Kind of like holding a heavy shopping bag with thin handles. Balanzza has two models below this. One that is green and is identical minus the light feature and timer. And the bottom of the line model which has a small swivel handle that would make it uncormfortable to hold. Also most of the scales out there use a small hook that you hook onto your suitcase handle. The Balanzza uses a strap and buckle you strap around the suitcase handle. You can buy a harness for this to be used to weigh small packages also. I recommend getting the carrying case for this because you don't want it getting banged around and throw off the scale. The reason I didn't give it four stars is because the battery cover latch needs to be more sturdy it can come off pretty easily. And also I have not had extensive use of it long enough to know how durable it will be. But I did get to use it on one vacation trip and boy am I glad I had it. My wife maximized every inch of our checked suitcase within a few ounces and made our carry on's lighter and we didn't stress out. If you don't get this scale. Then any scale that works within a pound is better than not having one at all. It'll save you time and headaches guessing and rearanging.
